Make the Most of Fall
"And all at once, summer collapsed into fall." Oscar Wild never visited Canada in the autumn and I find that strange. A few years ago my husband and I made the most of fall when hiked Larch Valley and Sentinel Pass. The trail is a steady climb through the larch meadows and then another 2.5 kilometres up a switchback trail to reach Sentinel Pass. The views are astounding and the hike really gives you a great view of the valleys and peeks, but the dramatic change of the ... read more

It's sleek and simple and I'm a fan. I have to be honest, I thought this jumpsuit trend was only for the younger crowd and not the young at heart. Shelley MacDonald Jewellery
Connecting with other women who inspire us is the very best part of our job. Shelley MacDonald is a talented Canadian jewellery designer who's story took a dramatic turn a few years ago when she was unexpectedly launched onto a very big stage. We first took notice of her work in 2016 and have been fans ever since. Let's rewind the clock a bit. In 2016, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (William and Kate) were touring Canada. Kate Middleton's stylist purchased a pair of earrings in Shelley MacDonald's store in Carcross, Yukon. The next day, Kate wore the earrings, creating a world wide frenzy to snatch up a pair. Media chaos ensued and the global demand for the Modern Ulu earrings remains ... read more
Pink Jacket and Grey Dress
Pink and grey have to be one of the prettiest combinations of all time. When I was a kid, my bedroom was even in this colour scheme so I know it's a duo that will continue to be around for a very long while. (not that I'm old) I love how the they are both neutrals and pastel and when worn together, they create a chic softness. Today, I've paired this dynamic duo with white runners and my black bag that I use practically every single day. The jacket also gives this otherwise plain dress more interest and depth. Plus... Bright Sweater with a Striped Skirt
Truth. I've had this sweater for years and I never wear it. Even though bright pink is a colour that I don't normally wear, I was certain this sweater would be the exception. However, every time I went to wear it, I would talk myself out of it and hang it back up for another day. This colour was just out of my comfort zone. Do you have clothes that for whatever reason, you just don't wear? I decided to give it an honest effort and come up with some ways I would be comfortable wearing it. This striped skirt was one of my favourite options. It's a colour palette that works with everything and it's very simple. That's where I went wrong, I was trying too hard to make it work. Dress Me Up
You might think the three of us went shopping together and strategically planned this particular photo. But the truth is the only thing that was planned was to wear a red dress for myself (Denise) and Alison... and then to have Erika to wear blue. Crazy how similar the reds are, and you know how many hues of red there are out in that big fashion world!! Sometimes things just work out and when they do...you line up, smile and snap a photo! All three of these dresses are made of a stretchy comfortable fabric which lends itself to being the first dress you choose when your looking for a little something, extra special. Depending on your personality and mood for the day these dresses can ... read more
The Working Blouse
The title might make you scratch your head and say.....what?? But here is a little trivia. The beginning of the denim jacket is said to be pinpointed to the late 1800s, calling Levi Strauss — the Denim Dad himself — as the originator. Strauss designed up something called the "working blouse" that was basically a denim jacket in its infancy. Cool right?? Well..... ... read more

Its a Wrap!
There has been a lot of talk on social media about fall and transitioning into the next season. I am even guilty of mentioning the fall word this last week! I don't know about you, but I for one get kinda of grumpy when I stroll through the mall on a hot sunny day in early August to find all the summer clothes long gone! Doesn't it seem a little strange that we cannot buy a summer outfit in the middle of summer???? I get it....its all part of the retail strategy but it is a little inconvenient for the consumer. Now that I have that rant out of the way I'm going to keep this post all about summer. This dress is a mock wrap around. Don't you love those??? Have you ever worn a real true ... read more
Fall for Orange
Orange is not the easiest of colours to wear. It's no secret. But it is a colour that brings a statement to the look and for this reason I am "falling for the Orange." The safest way to wear orange is to pair it with a neutral colour. Tans, white, grey. In the case where you have a solid orange shirt, like is shown here, it is calling for a pattern skirt or at least textured. I choose the textured skirt, which gives a ton of interest without over shadowing the already bold sweater. Sometimes you need to let a piece have their special day and not compete with it. Here again you are seeing my favourite sandals by J.Crew...they never disappoint in comfort and style. Another option ... read more
Kicking Back
"Kicking Back" ...What do you wear on your day off , or when running errands, or playing taxi for the kids? I have a little bit of an obsession with comfy clothes that just feel like me. I'm sure you all have those pieces that if you could wear 24/7 you would. I can't tell you how many times I scan the closet and keep passing over the same tops and pants just to get to the favourites. Its kind of like a mental game I play, pretending that there just might be that chance of me picking out something different for my crazy day of errands or just hanging at home. Im here to say it rarely happens and my faithful comfy ones always win out! Although I still have pieces in my wardrobe that I do ... read more
Layering
It really is a simple concept when putting an outfit together. Layering...its makes the wardrobe stretch into twice the amount of looks you otherwise would have. I like to think in multiples. In this case I've only used 2 items layered, mostly because the skirt is already a bit busy so I didn't need to add a third. Its a good habit to get into when putting together a look. Add a necklace and jacket to a plain shirt, or a crossover bag and belt. Whatever the combination is, you will find your outfit will look complete and finished when you combine in multiples of 2 or 3. Can a person overdo the layering???....well its certainly a personal opinion, but I say YES. Sometimes too much ... read more

Pretty and Pink
Don't you hate the long lost hours spent staring at your closet wondering what to wear? Somedays are easier than others but when you're rushing out the door to work, sometimes you just need to liven up a few basic staples to get you out the door. We think a fun twist on the pencil skirt and basic button up is a pop of colour! Make it pink and it's even better. Using a colour like a subtle pink gives a classic look more of a fun edge. I bought these shoes in the Spring and have been wearing them ever since. Plus, they are are a huge sale right now! The suede also easily transitions the shoe into fall. Hope you feel pretty in pink! I sure ... read more
What Friends Do
Every important stage in your life can be defined by a friendship. The older I get the more I realize that is true and the more I realize how priceless and necessary these relationships are. I have known Denise ten years and from the instant I met her, I liked her. I had just moved to a new community and was 8 months pregnant with my third baby. It was a tough time in my life - a big move and a big baby. She was there to support, smile and help me know that I would get though it. She showed up to my new home on moving day with a tray of food and her quick wit and made me feel the joy in what I was doing. A new house and a new baby - sure it was tough but after giving her a tour of my new ... read more
Fall Transitioning
Fall is around the corner. Leaves are threatening to turn a beautiful shade of yellow, orange and red. Nature teaches us all about transitioning. It does it slowly. A bit at a time. Warm days but cooler evenings. Days becoming shorter. Still mowing the lawn and raking up the odd fallen leaf. And so it is with our wardrobe choices. No need to pack away all the summer clothes. Add a light weight sweater to a summer shirt. Pants are pulled out more often but still paired with sandals. Its gradual. It gives us time to contemplate the next chapter of seasons that lay ahead. This outfit is the perfect transitioning look. Once it gets a little colder just replace the sandals for ankle ... read more
All about the High waisted Jean
Its time to address the high waisted jeans that have come back to say hello. At first I must admit I was a little skeptical since they are also known as mom jeans. Not the best connotation, if you know what I mean. The truth is I am a MOM but yet I don't want to be labelled as wearing mom jeans! Clearly those are left for my MOM to wear!!! These ones are from Madewell and if you haven't had a chance to try this brand you need to put down your phone, laundry, kids, laptop, whatever it is that occupies your day and go try a pair on. There is so much stretch to these jeans you could show up to the yoga studio and not miss a beat. (you might be looked at a bit strangely however) Height of ... read more
