It’s all in the presentation. This statement was made for December and rightfully so because December is a time to make things beautiful. We put extra efforts into everything we do. I see decorating as an outward expression of love. (this doesn’t mean quantity) I see it as a way to bring a different kind of peace into my home. When it comes to the kitchen table, I like it to look magazine worthy because this is one of the most important venues in the house. This is also the only time of the year I TRY to make it look half decent.
I love the individuality of a beautiful place setting. I love the details that go into creating a beautiful centrepiece but mostly I love what we all bring to the table. We reminisce, laugh, eat and make new plans. The kitchen table is where the magic happens and tonight, my table is a place of peace.
Many years ago my husband was asked to give a talk in church on Christmas Day. He was one of two speakers but the first speaker took all the time. It wasn’t intentional, just a misunderstanding about how much time there was. He was not offended and had no hard feelings. Fast forward about 8 years to a knock on my door.
I opened it to see the most beautiful basket of fruit and an equally beautiful smiling face. It was a gesture reconciliation, though not necessary, it was still appreciated. December is a chance to set our hearts and minds straight. It is a chance to fix the imbalance, get ride of the burdens we carry and most importantly, to make someone else’s life more beautiful.
It does matter how our table looks but it matters more how it makes others feel. I love that December brings out the best in all of us and I love that it’s all in the presentation. Merry Christmas friends!
