Why limit yourself to 1 piece of art when you can fill your space with all your favorites? Almost without exception this stairwell gets all the attention it deserves anytime people see it. I personally love the idea of one area designated to displaying your favourite art, photos or memorabilia. This stairwell is an area that is hard to decorate and doing a gallery display is the perfect answer to those large bare walls.
The nice thing about these gallery displays is you can simply slide a new picture in front of the old one and instantly your display is updated. I for one can’t bring myself to cover up the baby pictures of my grandkids so I prefer to add a few more frames.
I chose to keep my look a little more conservative and streamlined by having all the frames and mats in the same colour.
I don’t worry about having every frame perfectly spaced either. First of all it will make you loose your mind trying to do that…and secondly it gives it a bit more of a eclectic look, which I like very much. Even though each frame is also different in shape and size, because they are all the same colour it keeps the wall looking organized. Its a great way to reuse old frames by simply painting them to make your very own gallery wall and saving a few pennies at the same time. Now that is a win all around!
Here is a wonderful example of art and memorabilia in the eclectic style. What I love about this is also the way Erika used the entire wall from ceiling to floor. Often we put boundaries on where a picture is hung, but by using the entire wall from top to bottom it all becomes art. I love it!!
Trust your instincts, don’t be afraid of putting a few holes in the wall and have fun with putting your own gallery wall up. You got this!
