I am a list maker but December requires an extra piece of paper to accommodate all the extra to-do’s. When that list turns into a novel, it may be time to simplify.
How to Simplify Your December
- Lower Your Expectations. The burden of perfection is oh so present in December. For some reason we tend to take everything to the next level. We do not need to go 100% full out with decorations, cards, food and parties. If you want to go all out, pick your battles.
- Outsource. It’s mind blowing how many services will come to your aid and December is a perfect time take advantage of it. Get a service to clean your house, do a meal, or make a dessert. I’ll even send out laundry and it’s amazing how much it helps!
- Make Work Part of the Fun. Need to address a mountain of Christmas cards? Do some baking? Put up Decorations? Why not make a party out of it?! Should one person really be expected to do all the work? Enlist help and then make peace with it.
- Begin with the end in mind. What do you really want out of December? When it comes right down to it, we’re all trying to create memories. All the things we think we need to do won’t necessarily help us create the memories we want. Before you put anything on your to do list, make sure it will really help you reach that end goal.
