It finally happened, The Winter Wonderland you dream of, the one you see in all the Christmas movies, is outside my front door. It is every bit as magical as I hoped it to be. Now, the challenge is to figure out how to exist in it and still be able to dress for whatever occasion lies ahead.
Sometimes though I have a stumbling block on what to wear. Perhaps it’s burn out or a lack of inspiration. Whatever it is, it does raise its ugly head usually at a time when I need to look my best.
But don’t be too hard on yourself, even the greatest artists of all time like Da Vinci (who painted the Mona Lisa and Last Supper) had his moments of the blank canvas stare. Why do I tell you all this… well because there is help! When I walked into the store, Wilfred at Chinook Mall, I had that blank canvas stare going on. Then the magic happened…that sales clerk who was dressed just right took me under her wing and had me loving everything I tried on. I have had a few of these sales clerks, that know what they are doing. Next time you feel a little less than inspired, give those clerks a try. It just may change the way you think about shopping. Be open to trying a few different things together. This clerk did not hesitate for a second to mix the texture of a flowy light pleated skirt with a knitted sweater.
The sweater I am wearing here is actually a colour I claimed was not good on me. In fact I explained to the nice sales clerk that its just not a great colour for my skin tone….but as you can see I can wear this colour and it is such a nice change to all the grey and black in my closet. This mock turtle neck slouches down slightly adding a nice relaxed look. The sweater is incredibly soft and the bonus here are the sleeves are long enough. Its something that I struggle with because of my monkey arms. Finding sleeves that are actually long enough so I don’t look like I just shrunk my sweater or wearing my daughters! This sweater fits a bit big so I’m wearing a Small which sits just below the waist so you can comfortably do the front tuck without too much bulk. It looks great with jeans and skirts! What a great addition to my wardrobe.
Let’s chat about the skirt. First of all, I do not have much shape, (thanks mom and dad for that) In fact, my mom used to complain that fitting clothes on me was like dressing a telephone pole. Same shape. Hmmm I think this was a compliment and I’m going to take it as such cause I have the best mom in the world, and I have never needed counselling so she clearly knew what she was doing! I can’t tell you how many times I have tried this type of pleated skirt on and I always looked ridiculous in it but this one is the exception. Its hard to tell by the picture but the pleats do not go all the way to the bottom of the skirt, instead they stop about 10″ above the hemline and gently flare out, giving me the much needed shape. Genius!! It’s chiffon type fabric is lined and swings as you move. It is really a beautiful skirt and as you can see can be paired with even the most casual sweater for a slightly edgy look. I’m wearing a small which normally I would be a medium so it appears to fit big. Size down.
There are limited sizes and colours left. Here are some other options to achieve this same look.
