Connecting with other women who inspire us is the very best part of our job. Shelley MacDonald is a talented Canadian jewellery designer who’s story took a dramatic turn a few years ago when she was unexpectedly launched onto a very big stage. We first took notice of her work in 2016 and have been fans ever since. Let’s rewind the clock a bit. In 2016, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (William and Kate) were touring Canada. Kate Middleton’s stylist purchased a pair of earrings in Shelley MacDonald’s store in Carcross, Yukon. The next day, Kate wore the earrings, creating a world wide frenzy to snatch up a pair. Media chaos ensued and the global demand for the Modern Ulu earrings remains steady. I love a good story. I remember reading about how this one little gesture by Kate Middleton forever changed Shelley MacDonald’s business. It’s a great story but, there’s much more to it than a certain Duchess wearing a pair of earrings.
Shelley MacDonald has worldwide staying power because she is true to who she is. She has always been inspired by the rugged great white north and elements of the Canadian wild are reflected in every piece she creates. Shelley also see’s herself as a voice for the people in Canada’s north and uses her work to honour this great heritage. She loves Canada’s outdoors and uses her designs to connect other people to it as well.
We are thrilled to partner with Shelley MacDonald and show you her beautiful Modern Ulu earrings.
