There are just so many SHOES and so little time – especially in the summer! We are in a race against the clock when it comes to wearing sandals in colder climates. This week we decided to put our best foot forward and hit the dressing room of JCrew and Nordstrom to bring you the very best finds in footwear. One of our biggest criteria for a solid shoe is comfort. If you can’t reasonably pound the pavement in them, they don’t make our cut. Gone are the days of carelessly teetering on 5 inch stilettos. We’ve got backs, knees and the next 50 years to worry about. Here is our round-up!
First, from JCrew this gold wedge. This style was from last year and they actually brought it back. I remember it because I spent hours trying to track it down after it sold out. I COULD NOT stop thinking about this shoe. It’s a great height and perfect for jeans and skirts – meaning you will get lots of mileage out of this. I also like that the wedge isn’t too high and that means you can actually walk in this shoe for the day. It will be great for work or play. My only decision to make is gold or brown suede…. maybe both?!
Lace-up sandals are everywhere! They are adorable. JCrew gets another homerun for this pair! They also ome in red and black and metallic gold. We thought that tying them up would be too much of a commitment for summer because it’s just easier to slip on a sandal and go. However, look at them. They’re worth the 4 seconds. Denise had to have them!
I am currently crushing on this pair of suede pumps. I am in love with the heel height, it’s only 3 1/8″ and it’s perfect for walking but still flattering on your legs. The second I put this shoe on I could tell it was extremly high quality. The leather is soft on the inside as well as the outside. It may be the last pair of black suede pumps I buy. The shape is sophisticated and reminds me of Paris – probably because it has a French name, the Colette Suede D’Orsay Pumps. Beautiful shoe. Beautiful name. Makes me HATE my current pair of black suede pumps, they’re too high and from an American designer who didn’t even have the decency to give them a fancy French name.
Another Lace-Up from JCrew – this black pair. The suede is so soft and the shape is very slimming. I really like black for summer because it can really anchor an outfit. Plus, it’s a very forgiving colour when it comes to dirt and summer wear and tear. I’m not too worried about the suede since this can be treated with a spray. I did go down a half a size in this sandal, for no other reason than it just looked a little better and was easier to walk in. I do have a very narrow foot so being able to lace up and sandal is a great option for me. This pair is logging lots of miles already. One of my teenage daughters has even worn it a few times.. that’s aways a compliment… and annoying at the same time.
Denise has worn these sandals almost constantly since spring came. I mean that in a nice way, not a “she needs a sandal intervention” kind of way. In fact, these sandals have grown on me so much that I really want a pair. Things could get awkward around here if we both start wearing the exact same pair of sandals every day. I mean she had them first, I can’t very well rush out and buy them too. There are rules at play. If we were the same size I would just borrow them once in a while. Maybe they could be like a team uniform. The DAE team summer shoe. I’ll get Alison a black pair so at least she’s different. There problem solved…. twin for the win.
This style has been around a few years and even though this black pair still looks good, I would recommend a higher quality version. With the different heel heights available now, it is easier to get a shoe that has more staying power and will be a bit more comfortable. Price doesn’t always equall comfort but it can often be an indicator. Having said that, this style looks amazing with jeans and I would be lost without it with skirts and dresses.
I am awarding this Nike Air Max the gold medal for comfort. I bought these just before a recent trip where we walked, 10 miles a day. I wanted a shoe that would look good with lighter coloured clothing since the weather is nice but again, comfort is key. Since we’ve been home, I haven’t really stopped wearing them. My husband actually thinks they’re ugly, making them all the more fun to wear.
These wedges were also part of the JCrew summer collection last year. I think this year’s wedge is a little lower. However, I am just going by feel, nothing scientific. The wedge is extremly flattering and easy to walk in. I love how they look with jeans, skirst, shorts, pants, even by a couch. They’re a great option. Denise has a pair that just sits in her closet, we’re not sure why, we are working through this.
Colourful lace-up complete with fringe is another option for this summer trend. This sandal is on a deep discount at Nordstrom. The fringe is suede, fluffy and pretty fantastic. Who doesn’t love a pop of colour! We even liked it with Denise’s dark jeans, they really made a statement.
Hope this helps you in your summer shoe buying efforts. Try a lace-up and fall in love! The clock is already ticking – so enjoy every second of summer shoes! Have a great day everyone!
