An all black outfit makes quite a statement. Sometimes that statement needs a little softer edge to the overall look and mixing different textures is a chic solution. I like all black but sometimes it can feel a bit to harsh and intimidating.
Especially in winter, it’s easy to soften the all black look with some different fabrics. It still makes a statement but a softer one. I love this look, it’s one of my favourites.
And the backdrop of Calgary’s first massive snowstorm paints quite a picture!! My skirt is a synthetic leather. That means it looks and feels like leather.. without the hearty price tag. It’s easy to clean too because a warm cloth will wipe away any spills.
My sweater (seen covered in wet snow here) is a wool blend which means it’s very warm. It’s also loose enough so that on the really cold days I can add another layer. (denim would be great… or even something warmer like merino wool)
My over the knee boots add another texture to complete the look.. suede. Yes, I’ve waterproofed them so the snow didn’t ruin them. Suede adds a soft element to the outfit and I like the way it warms up the skirt. Another plus to these boots, I’m wearing my warm ski socks and no one is the wiser. Taking pictures in a snowstorm is not fun! But it is reality! Shop my look below.
